Since 2008 the centre has helped thousands of young people in Nkomazi West find information, build skills and open doors.
What we have achieved together.
Figures from the centre's own records since it was established.
Awareness campaigns on substance abuse, reaching more than 2,400 young people.
Young people helped to apply for admission to universities, colleges and TVET colleges.
Young people trained in basic computer skills, receiving accredited certificates (CICET).
Young people attended a one-day NYDA life skills workshop on entrepreneurship.
Young people completed five days of NYDA training and received business management certificates.
Young people enrolling in free, accredited NQF Level 2 IT and Business Administration training with Atvance Academy.
Participants trained in mobile digital literacy with Mpumalanga Colab.
Unemployed youth placed in veterinary internships in 2019, now permanently employed.
Learning that goes beyond the classroom.
The centre works with the wider community to look after young people's wellbeing. Each 1 December, local nurses give their time to teach young people about HIV/AIDS and the dangers of the disease, and awareness campaigns on substance abuse keep these conversations going throughout the year.
The centre is also a place where young people give back: volunteer services are part of what we do.

Highlights from the centre's recent years.
Six internships, and a permanent site
Six unemployed young people are helped to secure internships on a veterinary programme, and the centre secures a permanent site on the R570 Jeppes Reef Road.
Sasol backs the centre
In January, funding from Sasol helps the centre move from renting towards owning its own offices. In November, Sasol funds digital equipment: seven computers, seven chairs, an admin table, two laptops and an air conditioner.
Paying it forward
In July the centre donates five tables and seven computers to the Nkanyiso youth development centre run by the Masibekela organisation.
Community donations
Lugebhuta SGB donates two office chairs in April 2023 and an office table in 2024. In September 2023 the Department of Government Communication and Information System donates two CPUs and two screens.
New centres and new funding
A beneficiary aged 33 is funded by NYDA with four pigs in June. The Jeppes Reef development centre launches on 2 June with the centre's help, and the manager of an after-care for children aged 1 to 4 is offered training through the centre's network and is confirmed as funded by Smart Start.

How we keep ourselves on track.
Monitoring and evaluation is an ongoing process at the centre, so we know the service is making a real difference.
- Community Development Practitioners from the Department of Social Development make monthly and quarterly monitoring visits.
- The board meets with all committees each quarter to evaluate the programmes.
- Attendance registers and monthly progress reports document what is delivered.
- Staff use outcome-tracking tools to measure the impact of the service on young people.
